Changing the way the world views adults with disabilities.

Uniquely Abled. Wonderfully Made.

The BiG Community provides meaningful work and community for

adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • The mission of BiG is to provide a God-centered, innovative vocational and residential community for adults with disabilities, and to change the way the world views this population.

  • BiG provides meaningful vocational and entrepreneurial opportunities for those with disabilities—who we refer to as Citizens in our community—that prevent them from functioning independently in society. BiG believes that these individuals each possess unique talents and abilities, and we strive to give them the platform to share those gifts with our community. BiG developed a vocational program that educates, trains and supports our Citizens in an encouraging, interdependent environment. The vocational program includes enterprises strategically chosen for their adaptability and their marketability. Supervisors make modifications to ensure that every Citizen will experience success in completing meaningful work. To support our Citizens' vocational program, The BiG Community operates an award-winning retail shop and café where our citizens work and sell their unique products.

  • The public education system trains our children with special needs to acquire skills and become prepared for life after graduation. However, once these children become adults and graduate from high school, there is no place in society for them to continue to learn, grow and contribute. The skills they have acquired over twelve years of education cease to be utilized; often they will regress in behavior and experience depression. With 1,144,453 people with an intellectual or functional disability in Texas alone, the problem is acute and real.

  • The greatest fear of parents of special needs adults is what will happen to their child when they are no longer able to provide care. To help meet this need, Grace Place by BiG, our residential community in Weir, just six miles from our main campus, is under construction. At full build-out, it will provide a permanent home for 80 Citizens plus staff.
