Become a Citizen

BiG Program

Brookwood in Georgetown serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (Citizens) who are desiring to be a part of a community designed especially for them.

BiG currently operates three campuses that provide meaningful jobs and fulfilling daytime opportunities for our Citizens. The central location is at 905 N. Church Street in Georgetown, Texas. Our program has also expanded to satellite locations in Georgetown and Austin. Each site shares the philosophy, culture and administrative support of BiG.

Brookwood in Georgetown was created for those who are no longer receiving federally mandated special education services. Therefore, we will accept applications beginning at age 20.

To become a BiG Citizen, applicants must complete the following 5 steps:

Step 1 - TOUR

Take a glance at our innovative vocational program to better understand our culture and goals as an organization. Tours are available every Wednesday at 10:15. Reservations are required- sign up on our tour page.

Step 2 - APPLY

After the tour, if you feel that BiG might be a fit for your loved one, we would welcome your application. Click here to fill out an application for Vocational and Residential services. There is a $100 non-refundable application fee; this does not guarantee placement at BiG.

Step 3 - INTERVIEW

When an applicant is selected from the Waiting Pool for further consideration, an interview will be scheduled.

Step 4 - EVALUATION/VOLUNTEER DAY

An admissions committee will evaluate the information from the application and initial interview. Prospective Citizens will be invited to complete a volunteer day at their campus. This gives the individual an opportunity to “try out” BiG, and job supervisors the chance to evaluate the potential placement.

Step 5 - ENROLLMENT

After the volunteer day, it will be determined if BiG is a good fit for the applicant. If so, congratulations! Welcome to the BiG family!

Grace Place

Grace Place is an inclusive residential community, empowering our Citizens to flourish as they live, work, and worship in an environment designed for them. This is a place for BiG Citizens to call their forever home, a place where they can flourish for a lifetime. A place of grace.

Enterprises

Our Citizens work in a variety of creative enterprises at each campus. These enterprises provide a social entrepreneurial atmosphere and challenge the Citizens, while simultaneously giving them valuable work experience and a sense of purpose and belonging. Our current enterprises include hand-built clay pottery, pies, cards, jewelry, candles, fudge, spice mixes, shower steamers, dog treats and many more.
